Vo, Danh - National Gallery of Denmark

Take My Breath Away
Migration, cultural history and identity are key themes addressed in SMK’s new special exhibition Danh Vo: Take My Breath Away. (30.08.2018 - 02.12.2018) Danish-Vietnamese Danh Vo ranks among Denmark’s pre-eminent internationally acclaimed living artists – as reflected in this exhibition, which comes to SMK directly from the Guggenheim in New York.
Fragments of a full-scale replica of the Statue of Liberty, a chandelier that has witnessed key turning points in history, and a letter from a warring Henry Kissinger revealing his keen love of ballet: Danh Vo lifts existing objects out of their original context, interweaving them to form new narratives about identity and culture.
With the retrospective Take My Breath Away, arranged in co-operation with The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York, SMK now shows the most comprehensive overview ever presented on Danish soil of the work of one of the greatest contemporary artists of Denmark.
With his experimental approach to art and its institutions, Vo has generated ever-growing international attention and acclaim in recent years.
In this autumn’s major special exhibition, Danh Vo unfolds his poetic and political approach to art. The result is unmissable. (Text: National Gallery of Denmark)
