Spanish Master of Light
Born in Valencia, Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923) excelled as a portrait and landscape painter. While he also depicted grand historical subjects, he is most closely associated with monumental paintings of the beaches of Valencia. This exhibition (10 08.2019 - 03 . 11. 2019)will highlight Sorolla’s skill in the depiction of water and light, a quality that recurs throughout his work, and demonstrate the influence on his work of, among others, Velázquez and Bastien-Lepage, and his friend John Singer Sargent.
