This exhibition (21.12.2015 – 21.02.2016) presents the dynamic work of nine contemporary artists from the Tiwi Islands. Part of the Northern Territory, the Tiwi Islands are located approximately 100 km north of Darwin at the junction of the Arafura and Timor seas. Being Tiwi includes prints, paintings and installation, showcasing work by artists from across generations and from all three major art centres. Their experimental work continues to realise in different forms the Tiwi traditions of life and culture.
Being Tiwi includes the first prints produced at Tiwi Design, several new acquisitions and a newly commissioned work by each artist. Artists include Timothy Cook, Raelene Kerinauia, Maria Josette Orsto, Eddie Puruntatameri, Nina Puruntatameri, Cornelia Tipuamantumeri, Giovanni Tipungwuti, Bede Tungutalum and Pedro Wonaeamirri.
